SO WHAT IS THE POINT OF A MAN? IT IS no longer a man's world, according to an outburst by Michael Buerk in this week's Radio Times. Warning the British male's status is in "serious decline", the BBC newsreader said modern men are only "optional extras... like grated chocolate on a cappuccino".

WHEN you're younger you think men only have one point - that they're just good for one thing.

But as I've got older I've realised they're not just good for sex, although that's obviously important to me. They're good to be around, too.

Women will always need men. We need them for emotional support, to make us laugh and to give us a feeling of power.

But it's a double-edged sword as they can make you feel very weak in some ways, too - particularly if you're in love and feeling vulnerable.

But when you feel good and you are with someone who is good for you, it can have the reverse effect and make you feel very strong.

It's an interesting social phenomenon as many men are feeling that all they are good for is to be sperm donors - basically because women are so independent these days.

But we do still need the emotional side of things from men - and companionship.

I built some cupboards and wardrobes the other day with my mum, so I don't need men for that side of things. My boyfriend Lee (Sharpe) did tell me to wait as he'd help me put them together but I told him I could do it myself.

I do think there is a lot of point to men - but I don't ever want to be reliant on a man for everything, because what happens when they're not there?
