The "R" to "Z" assimilation, seen when "Sharon" becomes "Shaz" or "Darren" becomes "Daz", is certainly not unique to Australia - the Vikings were making the same shift (in reverse) 1000 and more years ago. Old Germanic had a "Z" sound represented by the rune "algiz".
